It’s a never ending argument. Which team had the best strip and at which tournament did they wear it?

Or a better question may be, what strip reminds us of  specific player or iconic goal?

Here, PLZ Soccer looks at the top 5 most eye catching strips from the most memorable games.

 

BARCELONA ORANGE STRIP – 1992

In the 1991-92 season the classic orange Barcelona shirt was worn by Portuguese striker Eusebio, the multi talented Brian Laudrup and not to forget, now Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, all of whom were led out in the 1992 European Cup final by three time Ballon d’Or winner Johan Cryuff.

 

NAPOLI HOME STRIP – 1990/1991

The team failed to perform in Serie A that year,  and after a not so successful start to the season they ended up changing from this shirt to another blue styled home kit. The team started to pick up results but finished 8th in the league in a season where Maradona underperformed by his standards.

 

HOLLAND WORLD CUP STRIP – 1988

One of the most iconic kits of all time, Ruud Gullit captained the side that lifted the Euro 1988 trophy for Holland.  His side were decked in bright orange with a dazzling Aztec-style print. Marco van Basten’s incredible volley in a 2-0 win over the Soviet Union, only adds to the shirt’s iconic status.

 

USA WORLD CUP STRIP – 1994

This shirt has been included in multiple lists of both the best and worst jerseys ever to feature at a World Cup.
unsurprisingly, Adidas were the dominant sponsor at this tournament, providing kits for 10 of the 24 nations involved. Many of them followed similar patterns, but this one caught the eyes of the world.

Despite it being the USA’s away shirt, it was wore it in all three of their group stage games. They advanced to the knockout stages where they were then eliminated by Brazil.  A Google search will tell you that it has been included in multiple lists of both the best and worst jerseys ever to feature in the history of the World Cup.

 

SOVIET UNION STRIP – 1998/1999

The Soviet Union 1988-89 home shirt was worn as the side reached the Euro 88 final only to be beaten by Holland, opponents that they had previously beaten in the competition. The side also saw off England and Italy on their way to the final.
