When it comes to the title run-in, Celtic might want to hand out beta-blockers with every revolving click of a turnstile across the coming weeks.

Brendan Rodgers joked that he needed therapy after the weekend semi-final when Celtic flirted dangerously with a Scottish Cup exit before prevailing against Aberdeen in a tense penalty shootout to set up a Hampden date with Rangers next month. A psychiatrist’s couch may be necessary between now and the end of May with a feeling that Saturday’s game may well be Celtic’s rollercoaster finale in microcosm.

All season there has been an inability to kill teams off when Celtic have been firmly on top – Ibrox was the perfect case in point a few weeks back as Rangers came from a game they had looked dead and buried in to take a point – while there is a suspicion there might be a couple of vampires lurking within the defensive ranks given the current aversion to crosses.

Aberdeen scored the same goal twice at Hampden with that long diagonal ball to the back post catching Celtic cold; Rodgers’ side have kept just two clean sheets across their last ten games.

So while there was some glee last week for those in Celtic colours as Rangers left Dingwall with nothing and Dundee with just a point, any sense of the title being sealed and delivered would seemed woefully premature.

Rangers steadied the ship with the win against a toothless Hearts side yesterday. It was a badly needed victory for Philippe Clement’s side with the Gers boss feeling the inevitable heat of a Glasgow week when results do not go well.  Whether Leon Balogun remains in situ ahead of Connor Goldson for the remainder of the campaign will be intriguing but regardless of personnel in green or in blue, both of these teams looks like capable of putting their supporters through the ringer across the next five league games.

Whoever has the stomach for it remains to be seen but there will be a few supporters watching the action unfold from behind the sofa.
