France defender Lucas Hernandez is set to miss Euro 2024 after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

Hernandez sustained the injury in Paris St Germain’s 1-0 Champions League semi-final first-leg defeat to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night.

The 28-year-old appeared to hurt himself in trying to prevent Dortmund forward Niclas Fullkrug scoring what proved to be the only goal of the game in the 36th minute, and was replaced by Lucas Beraldo a few minutes later.

A statement from Paris St Germain said: “Lucas Hernandez suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during the UEFA Champions League match between Borussia Dortmund and Paris St Germain.

“Today’s MRI scan confirmed the diagnosis made by the club’s doctors on Wednesday evening. The player will undergo surgery in the coming days. A further update will be made later.”

Hernandez, who has 37 caps for France, has made 40 appearances for PSG this season.
